Mississippi moon won't you keep on shining

I almost didn't buy this handmade dress at one of my local op shops. It was a weird mid-calf length and kind of shapeless on me. But I had a feeling it would look alright if the hem was raised, and that would give me some extra fabric to make a tie belt. Now I love it. It's so comfy in a light stretch poly fabric, and it's been so wearable during pregnancy.
The brown leather bag was a gift from a friend who volunteers at a local church op shop. She figured it was my kind of thing so she delivered it to my door. It's a gorgeous cosmetic case with pockets inside. Thank you Leslie for thinking of me!

36 week Bean belly! 2 to go!

Weirdly this little jacket showed up really light in the pics. It's actually more teal like the tights.

I built me a raft and she's ready for floatin'

I bought this handmade vintage frock at one of my favourite K-Road stores when we were in Auckland in June. I've worn it heaps since then, as it has lots of belly room and it goes with a variety of cardigans. The dress cost me $10 and the jacket/dress thing was $1. It's the perfect light weight over coat for Brisbane. We took these pics on a dim old day by the bay.

$3 Nana Nighty

I bought this cotton zip front dress years ago at a church op shop. I think it's probably a nighty, or a house dress. It reminds me of the kind of thing my Nana used to wear. I discovered this vintage cardigan that I had tucked away in a space bag at the back of my wardrobe. It's probably the first vintage cardigan I ever bought, from a vintage store in Melbourne. I've worn it maybe once or twice in the past 5 years. I think I thought the stripes were unflattering somehow. I'm glad I didn't get rid of it, as it's grown on me since I last pulled it out.

Vintage Baby Bean Preparations

I can't quite believe our Baby Bean is going to be in our arms within the next couple of weeks!
I have so many emotions running through my head. Still utter amazement that we've made it this far, when there were so many odds against it. I am in awe of the love that I feel for this little wriggly being in my belly. Although those kicks are uncomfortable now, they are reassuring.
It feels strange standing on this side of the abyss of parenthood, knowing everything is about to change, yet not quite understanding how. After 21 years of it just being the Captain & me, I can't imagine there being someone else with us all the time. It's exciting and absolutely daunting all at once. I kind of wish babies came with the ability to zip them back up in your tummy when it all gets too much! I have no idea of what it's going to feel like to hold my own flesh and blood in my arms....I guess I'll soon find out.

Here's some pics of Bean's room. Most of which has been bought secondhand or passed onto us.

A hand me down bassinet for those early weeks

A second hand cot, along with vintage linen

Vintage pretties on the wall

Renting our unit/apartment means the bed had to stay due to space restrictions. At least I can recline here when I need to. The dolly is one of my beloved childhood toys.

I'm counting the steps to the door of your heart

I'm a bit annoyed that I've had this smock dress tucked away in my wardrobe & have forgotten to wear it till now. I'm not sure it's going to fit over my basketball belly for much longer! I bought it at an op shop up the coast last year sometime. I like teaming navy & white frocks with the flannelette coat/dress that I bought in Christchurch on a shopping date with Helga a couple of years ago.
Speaking of New Zealand, we'd normally be there right now, as we have been for the past 6 years in a row. It's just as well we decided to go in a different season this year otherwise we would have been cancelling the trip due to our impending arrival mid September. As excited as we are about our Baby Bean finally joining us, I'm missing my beloved New Zealand right now too.

 33 weeks down!
