It's something quite familiar

I bought this handmade cotton shift dress from a Sunshine Coast op shop, with a whole bunch that came from an elderly hoarders collection. I was immediately drawn to that fabric. I added some darts with my sewing machine, as it was a bit shapeless to start with. We took these pics at the little historic local church that sits in the middle of suburbia, but it feels like you're miles away in a little forest.

Weekend Fair Fun

I was pleased to be able to make it to the Frock Up Brisbane fair on Saturday after fairly constant migraines last week. I got to spend some time with Trudie & two of her delightful kiddos, checking out the frockage, accessories & other vintage delights on offer. There were lots of lovely things there, but I came away empty handed. I'm trying to be mindful of my spending at the moment so I couldn't justify any purchases when I have so much already. It's always a treat to see my favourite Brissy sellers, including Chris of Remember When. Then on Sunday the Captain & I attended our first Aladdins Fair. I have no idea why we haven't gotten to this fair before. The room was buzzing with buyers & sellers & lots of interesting treasures, & I met a lovely lady who reads my blog (thanks for saying hi Lolly Molly). So all in all it was a fun treasure filled weekend.

These original 60's shoes were one thing I was tempted by. They were the perfect size for me, but the leather was stiff & I wondered if I'd ever break them in.

Gorgeous Trudie of My Vintage Childhood with Fraser & Sarah who looked like a little vintage Princess.

Look at that gorgeous face!!!

I didn't snap any pics from Aladdins, but I did spend a total of $5 on these couple of things.....

Green & gold brooch...like I "need" another green brooch in my life!
& a crustic old Woolworths tin

So that's my weekend in a nutshell! I hope you all had a good one.

Rummage Style Frock Friday

When my bestie Miss J gave me a gorgeous vintage sheet in it's original packaging I ummed & arred about whether to use it for it's intended purpose, or to immortalize it in frock form. The idea of wearing it won out, & I sent the fabric down to Teresa of Rummage Style, to make me a Scarlett dress.
This is the end result. Which goes perfectly with my stamp pendant from Tam. I only just realised almost all of this outfit is handmade in one way or another.

It's been a week I'd rather forget not only health wise, but we have had our PC's motherboard crack up, among other things. Technology is doing my head in at the moment! I'm just hoping I'll be up to getting to the Frock Up Brisbane Fair with Trudie tomorrow. We'll see how the weekend pans out!

It's Green Day!!!

Today is St Patrick's day. I can't honestly say it's a day that I celebrate, but I will always take the opportunity to wear my favourite colour. I do adore green.....especially that Kermit the frog kind of green. Green goes so well with other colours, like orange, red, yellow & grey. It seems to be the colour that makes me look the least sickly on a bad day. Yep I love it. Trouble is the Captain likes it too, so we often get asked if we're matching on purpose, which we aren't. At least if I get asked, "Is it St Patrick's day" (which has been known to happen), today I can say yes it is.

I'll never forget the way you look tonight

Lady in red....
I have avoided red for so long, I had no idea of its charms.
I found this red dress in Endos at Tewantin while we were on holidays. I wouldn't have even considered it some time ago. For years if I saw something I liked in red, I would immediately think "that wont suit me". Thank you blogging & my fellow bloggers for opening my eyes to the beauty of red.
Just goes to show even personal fashion rules are meant to be broken.
