Lady Print Frock Friday

This is one of those dresses that I love the idea of, but I don't love it on quite so much. The novelty print fabric is fab, but without a belt it's a sack from the neckline down. With a belt it's hard to get the gathers to sit right over the bust. I wonder if an elastic waist would be more user friendly, but I have no idea how to accomplish that.

  3. Oh the dress has little upside down ladies on it! I think you look lovely. Here's hoping you're not upside down for your own party! Have a Blast!!!!

  4. I know what you mean about that style of yoke - unbelted, it's a tent-like smock, with a belt, you get pouffy gathered fabric at the bust. Maybe adding some darts for shape would reduce the pouf factor when worn with a belt? And take it in a smidge to streamline it?
Still, whatever its issues, it's a lovely frock and you look gorgeous! Great bag too.
Hope all is well for your party on Sunday, Leisa. xxx

  5. Have you ever used elastic thread in your bobbin? It is great for making that elastic smocked waist. You can find lots of tutorials around if you're not familiar with it.

  8. Very cute fabric, and despite what you say, you look great in it. I hope you were able to not only have your party, but enjoy it! Chronic conditions are no fun. Hope you weren't tired out afterwards, either. Happy birthday!
