Final Finds Post for 2013.....Let's Make it a Big One! Jewellery Galore!

I think it's rather obvious to anyone that knows me, that I am a bit obsessed by accessories. As my Mum says, I could wear a different piece of jewellery every day of the year. I remember when I was younger, I loved to sit in Mum's bedroom & go through her jewellery drawer. Just looking at each piece & admiring them. It's something I still enjoy doing today. It's strangely ingrained in me somehow.
I really only pick up pieces at the op shops, as long as it's cheap as chips. And hey they don't take up too much space, although our bedroom kinda looks like a jewellery store!
Here are a few recently thrifted finds.

Orange glass cut beads
 Lifeline

Brown & yellow ring to match my brown & yellow frock
Salvos

Handmade bracelet for $2, which costs $65 on the makers website
Salvos

3 string beads
Community oppy

Plastic rose beads
Salvos

Goldtone hinged bangle
$1 Salvos
Strangely it's exactly the same as another one I bought at an antique fair, but this one is thicker.

Goldtone & silver tone bracelets, engraved in 1974 & 1968
Church op shop

Red brooch & earring set
Church op shop

Citrine ring
A steal at a Nursing home op shop

 Vintage button brooch
from a local market

Orange & gold tone bracelet (one missing stone but for a dollar I don't mind!)
Salvos

Sarah Coventry gold tone necklace
Lifeline

I bought a bag of junk jewellery because I spotted this green bracelet, & with it I got the pink & grey beads below, & the sparkly brooch pendant.
Lifeline

A sweet bird brooch from my Mum for Christmas
As well as the pendant below, from my favourite handmade shop in Dunedin

Can you believe that's not even all of my jewellery finds?!
Yep obsessed!
I think I need a 12 step program.
Happy New Year to you all. The Captain and I are having a quiet dinner tonight at Miss J's house.
Next year is gonna be a big one....turning the big 4-0, plus our 20th wedding anniversary among other things.
Bring it on!

80's does 50's Final Frock Friday for 2013

I bought this frock at Salvos for $6. It's a Jacqueline Eve cotton dress, and I'm assuming it's 80's era. It's very 50's in style, with a fitted bodice & full circle skirt. I wore it to go shopping at Aldi last week. I do like to dress up even for the most mundane of tasks. The man at the fruit shop liked my accessories!

 Outfit Details.....

80's cotton dress - Salvos
Enamel flower brooch - Etsy
Silver pendant - Ebay
Bangles - Op shopped
Two rings - Op shopped
Beaded bag - Salvos
Wooden shoes - Lifeline
Belt & Ray Bans - Retail

I hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas. Ours was nice, although hot and long, fitting in two family meals, which ended in a migraine from being upright too long. I'm gradually recovering, but dreading the predicted 38 degrees here in Brisbane on Sunday. If only perspiring made you loose weight, I'd be skinny in no time!

Merry Kitschmas!

I wanted to wish all of my followers and friends a very Merry Christmas.
Blogging this year has been an absolute delight and I love reading your comments as well as your blogs.
I am blessed to call many of you friends.
The Captain and I are spending the day tomorrow between our two families. Lunch with my crew and dinner with his. He scores two days off in a row, so we'll be laying low post Christmas while I recover.
Somehow I doubt I'll be matching the excitement of Christmas in the 80's....the Barbie bus and Fuzzy Pumper year was mega! But the Captain is giving me my very first GHD straightening iron so I'm feeling rather spoilt. Hopefully that will banish the frizz in the cooler months anyway.

(Above is a Christmas deer bell I picked up at Vinnies for $1)

Instead of my usual op shop finds post, I thought I'd share a few gifts that I've received from real life friends as well as virtual friends.

I was so touched to receive a lovely package in the mail from Allison of Just Underneath.
The colours in the lurex frock are divine!

And knowing my love for accessories Allison gifted me this faux wood-grain pendant, as well as a pretty tin to add to my collection.

Thank you so much Allison for brightening my day with such gorgeous treasures, & for entertaining us with your fabulous blog.

My bestie Miss J & I collect things for each other all year long. She knows me pretty well, & has an eye for the unusual. Here are some of the treasures she gathered for me.

Gorgeous vintage tray & two squirrel S&P shakers

And the piece-de-resistance was this unusual (it's big!) bird decanter. I've never seen anything quite like it!
Aren't those blue birds so pretty!

Even the Captain didn't miss out....he scored this vintage stool, still in original packaging.

My friend Miss G gave me this sweet Holly Hobbie plate among other things

And my friend Miss M gave me this fabulous deer brooch

Thanks again to my 'real' life friends & my blogging buddies for filling my life with sunshine & light.
Much Love to you and I hope you have a blessed Christmas time as we celebrate the birth of Jesus. Xx

I will squeeze the life out of you.....

A couple of weeks ago the Captain & I popped into the Brisbane Antique Centre for a coffee & a wander. In all honesty I'm not too sure about the future of this place...there are lots of empty spaces & some sellers have left, which is a shame. It just hasn't taken off like the Paddington or Woollongabba antique centers have. There is still some great stuff for sale, & I always enjoy looking at Remember When's stall.
This handmade seersucker dress was from the hoarders collection at a Sunshine Coast op shop. It doesn't feel like it's even been worn before. I'm embracing brown more, especially when it's mixed with my favourite colours green & orange.
