Vintage Clothing & Unsolicited Op Shop Advice

I hope you've all had a fabulous weekend. Ours was filled with my monthly medical appointments. Don't you just hate spending money on that stuff....$100 physio appointment on Friday, $320 specialist appointment yesterday, & to top it off we I lost our parking ticket & had to pay the all day rate.....ouch!!! Living with a chronic illness sure ain't cheap, but I'm grateful for good medical care. Just as well I didn't buy anything at the op shops last week! Here are a few clothing bits & pieces I've found recently.....

This Debenhams coat is an orange red colour. When I tried it on at Vinnies an op shop volunteer said to me, "That no fit you!" Lets just say her English wasn't crash hot. I tried to explain that I like the fact it's a sleek trench coat rather then bulky, but all she kept saying was "That no fit you". Obviously I bought it anyway. It does up....I'm happy! But it will forever remind me of her.
$12 Vinnies

A homemade maxi dress in that printed type fabric. Not sure what it's called. I like the green & blue hues.
Aid for the Blind

Long sleeve navy floral frock
Aid for the Blind

Non vintage but a label brand cardigan. I live in green ones!

Black zip front Osti dress with collar & pockets. I'm not too sure if black is my thing.

  1. That no fit you, oh don't you love op shop unsolicited advice. I've had things like that happen when I have bought larger frocks. Of course it doesn't pass some of their minds that I could take it in or belt it in.

Anyways on to our recent scores the trench is lovely, but I'm all swoony over the maxi it's lovely and the floral dress to of course, of course you can't say no to a green cardie I would have fought you for vintage or not lol.

Black Osti, I think out know how I feel about black, if it had some floral I would have nabbed it otherwise I'd likely would have left it for someone else.

  3. I saw that green maxi in Aid for the Blind and thought of you!!!!!!!!!! Truth is I went back to grab for you for when we finally meet up (sorry!!!) and it was gone ... it figured it had gone to a very, very good home if it had disappeared so fast :) :) . I'm just so happy she's yours!!! The coat is utterly gorgeous (MYOB lady!!!) and I've gone weak at the knees at the s/s cardi! Poo to expensive boring parking but you're very lucky to have the care you need my lovely. Meet up soon once The Phoenix gets settled in with a new GP :( xoxoxo

  5. Your bits and pieces are awesome. Great hunting! I've heard variations of that not-fitting line before, but like you, it has never stopped me. Sometimes I really go for hideous too, but no one has had the audacity to say, that's hideous! I look forward to seeing that green and blue maxi on you. Hopefully you won't remember the parking ticket incident, only the treasure-hunting ones.

  7. Cheeky biatch! She must have wanted it for herself, I get that a lot, too!
Good old Debenhams, one of the few shops still going strong in our town, I know that mac well, I sold it's twin last year!
Love the maxi but hate that you have to pay for your medical treatment. The UK might not have a lot going for it but at least it looks after it's sick! xxx

  14. Yowaza! Pricey weekend! I hate forking out money for anything except clothes, hand bags and shoes. I even resent having to buy food sometimes! Your recent finds are fantastic (never listen to shop assistants though!) and am especially loving that green cardi. Gorgeous colour!

  17. So funny when op shop staff actually try to talk you OUT of buying! its quite the opposite to retail shopping isn't it!

  18. Ha, I never take much notice of anyone's opinion apart from my own, so the op shop lady wouldn't have bothered me much! How funny that a vintage Debenhams coat ends with you - most bigger towns and cities in the UK still have a branch of good old Debenhams!
Predictably, I LOVE that maxi, and the print on the navy frock is very pretty. Try the black frock with some bright accessories, you might be a convert after all - once upon a time, you didn't wear red, remember?!
Ohhh, medical bills, what a horror. As Vix says, thankfully the UK is still hanging onto its free National Health Service... just. Hope you're OK, Leisa. xxxx

  19. Grrrr, these bills are never ending and so annoying, but at least you are in good hands, so to speak. Hope you are feeling ok after your appointment?? As usual my dear you have done so well in your op shop purchases, love the maxi and LOVE the green cardi, lush!!! So pleased to hear you got the coat in the end and I am sure you look gorgeous, do show us soon! xoxo

  21. I love the orange coat, even if the op shop lady thinks it doesn't fit you. Black isn't really my thing either. I have a few black things but mostly wear bright colours. It's bad enough you have to live with a chronic illness but having to pay all that money for medical care must make it that much harder.
