Bon Voyage Frock Friday

This post is coming a day early because we will be at the international airport bright & early Friday morning. We are flying into Dunedin & spending two weeks touring around the South Island of New Zealand for the 6th time! (Yes we love it that much!) We'll be going to Queenstown, Wanaka, Mt Cook, Oamaru & Christchurch..... & then flying up to Auckland for one week at our sister & brother-in-laws place. We already have the op shops mapped out, & I am hoping to get to the Vintage & Textiles Fair in Auckland on the 9th of Sept. Fingers crossed I get to see a couple of blogging buddies too. I must admit I've been packed since about May, but no doubt I will still be taking far too much stuff. My health hasn't been too good this year, so I am just hoping my body cooperates & I am well enough to enjoy the trip without too much pain. I will miss you all, & I will have a lot of blog reading to catchup on when we get home. Hopefully I'll be back with lots of Kiwi treasures & some more interesting photos then those taken in my backyard!

Today's frock was a recent Ebay purchase. This is a stretch poly dress that looks to be handmade. I like the button detail & the colours. You can see now why I "really needed" those orange & navy beads!

One Final Thrift....Petticoat Junction

So I had one last quick trip around our local op shops today with my bestie Miss J. Of course I'm not supposed to be buying anything before we go to New Zealand on Friday. Oh but surely these things were far too good to pass up, don't you think???

I've been wistfully dreaming of finding a frilly crinoline that I can wear under certain frocks for that 1950's look. I found this one in the dress up section of Salvos. Can you believe I found a green one??? How appropriate for all those green frock I have. It's actually a dancers petticoat. I might not wear it as outerwear like the fabulous Desiree or Curtise, but hopefully I'll feel just as fabulous with it swishing underneath a frock.

Despite my growing collection of vintage bags, I don't tend to use them day to day because I'm more a big bag girl. I carry a lot of "just in case stuff", just in case I need it. I admit I am a bit partial to a tan leather bag. I seem to have acquired a few, but none as huge as this one. It's by Lucky Brand of the USA & it set me back $10 at Lifeline. The leather is SO soft & yummy & it was in great condition. It did retail for $299 so I'm pretty pleased with that!

A little Australian made plastic bowl, I use these to hold my accessories....20cents.

Now that I'm branching into other colours, I really really needed an orange ring. I found this one at the little church op shop.

And my last find from the Chandler markets was this sweet red suede bag with a gorgeous coloured button thing on the front for $2.

Kenwall Frock Friday

I can't believe it was 27 degrees today! It felt like summer & that felt wrong to me in August. We seem to have such a short winter....I am dreading the return of the heat & humidity. Just as well we're escaping to New Zealand in a weeks time!

Today's frock is from Retro Metro at Paddington. I seem to have quite a few dresses from there. I do like the colours & the cut. I'm sure I'll get lots of wear out of it when summer arrives....which won't be too far away from the feel of it!

Outfit Details.....
Frock & Knit bag - $5 each Retro Metro
Vintage pendant - Ebay
Brooch - Caroline at Things I Do
Bangles - Great Aunty & thrifted
Green ring - K. Road Auckland
Cardi, belt, tights, sunnies & boots - retail

Don't be Crewel......Thrifted Finds

Here are a few things I found on my last trip to the Wynnum op shops...........

A wee kitsch squirrel with a furry tale. Miss J thought he was creepy....looks like he's holding a turd nut!

A family of squirrels 80cents....not sure about the colour, or the slightly crazed look of the little ones, but thanks to Miss Vanessa I can't leave a squirrel behind these days!

A linen table runner with red crewel work (I'm assuming that's what it might be?).

An icon of the 70' & brown tupperware biscuit barrel.

Will the accessory obsession EVER stop???
Tan & navy bangle

Red & navy beads

Blue button bracelet

Red bead necklace

A pair of orange beads

Red stretch belt $1...a necessity now that I'm wearing red.

Frock Friday & the Love Vintage Fair

Today's frock friday is the first time I've ever worn beige. Usually I avoid it like the plague, as I look so washed out in it. But this spotty zip front frock made me change my mind. I seem to be wearing the red & blue combo a lot lately.

And now for a belated post on the Love Vintage Fair.......

Miss J & I went to the Love Vintage fair in Brisbane last month. I won a double pass, & truth be told I was glad I didn't pay the entry fee as the fair wasn't really up my alley. Don't get me wrong there were some beautiful things there, but the cheaper end of the scale were frocks upwards of $100, apart from a few sale racks with nothing special. I would call it fancy pants vintage, whereas I am more cheap-skate thrifty vintage. The fair certainly pulled a good crowd, & there were many gorgeous ladies styled to the max. We browsed the fair in record time, & decided to hit our favourite op shops in Paddington after lunching at the Three Monkeys Cafe in West End. I must admit I much prefer the Brisbane Vintage Fashion Fair held twice a year at Eagle Farm, & The Way We Wear Fair at Mt Gravatt, which is on tomorrow (Yay!).

There was a fashion tribute to Marilyn Monroe

I ran into our delightful  Kitty looking scrumptious in a lace frock.

These beaded bags caught my eye.....$65

There were different seminars about vintage fashion.

A best dressed competition.

My latest thrifted bag....just like a Nana rug.
