Any Excuse for a Green Frock Friday

These photos were taken at Moffat Headlands on the Sunshine Coast a couple of weeks back. I have holidayed here since I was a little girl at our family Bach. It was a glorious winters day....well Queensland style anyway at a balmy 23 degrees. I winterised my green cotton house dress from the Brissy Vintage Fashion Fair with a black cardi & boots.

Green vintage brooch from my Mum
Green & black button ring from Dolly Did It at the Eumundi Markets
Typewriter bracelet from Etsy

My Sister

Today is my one & only big sister's birthday. B & I couldn't be more different....she loves exercise & a clutter free home. I like carbs, cake & lots of Nana style clutter. B tosses things out with no remorse, where as I'm a bit of a hoarder. I love winter & B loves summer. She was the good girl growing up, while I caused all the trouble. I'm taller, & yet we both have the same shoe size....which makes my feet look like hooves. We both married at the tender age of 19, & while that worked out perfectly for me & Mr P, it probably wasn't the best thing for B. My sis has gone through a difficult marriage split in the past year, & while we'd sooner rather forget the stress of the past 12 months, I know there will be happier days ahead for my dear sister. Thank you B for putting up with a pain in the you know where little sister much of the time in our younger years. I think you are so strong & brave to have left the situation you were in, & to be creating a new future for yourself & your precious kids. I love you so much. Happy Birthday! Xx

Here's a few pics in honour of my sis.......

These 3 pics are of us & our Nana. I think my love of old things comes from my Nana.....just look at her style! How I wish we had kept some of those frocks when she passed away.

Above are my stylie parents....well Mum was anyway!

Above with my sis B (left), & Mr P's sister (middle) who was my best friend long before I married Mr P.

We even had broken arms at the same time.

We were at the forefront of cutting edge style as you can see.

Long live the Koala jumpers!

And us in more recent times.

With my precious niece & nephew.

Happy 100th!

Can you believe I have blogged 100 times, in 100 different posts?! When I started this blogging journey I wondered how long I'd be able to keep it up. The question for me was when will I run out of things to blog about???? Thankfully that day hasn't come yet, & hopefully the urge to keep on collecting means I won't run out of things to post about any time soon. Thank you so much for following & reading Vintage Bird Girl. And thank you for giving me an outlet to ramble about my love of vintage. Your comments are always a delight to read, & I feel like I've made some like minded friends from all around the world through this blogging thing. Keep an eye out for a giveaway once I reach 100 followers!

Here's a few of my favourite things to mark my 100th post.

Sunny Coast Thrifted Finds

I had a pretty successful time op shopping last weekend at the Coast. Most of the stuff I found was from the Caloundra Salvos & the Hospital op shop. The hospital oppie is kind of dingy, but the good thing about it are the prices....dirt cheap! I was a bit disappointed to find the Warana Lifeline have raised their prices...One single retro canister there cost $45! I don't know who would pay that much at an op shop.

I found this sweet bird at the hospital op shop for 50cents. It's impossible for me to leave an old bird behind.

A couple of brooches to add to my growing collection.....

This is an old English vintage hat. I doubt I'll ever wear it as it looks like a green cat is sitting on top of my head, but I like it all the same!

I think it was the colour & the sweet hand knitted style of this cardigan that caught my eye. It has delightful crystal style buttons & it looks like it's never been worn.

This big old travel bag is in great condition from the hospital op shop for $2.

A winter crimplene frock by 'Debra Fashions' of Melbourne. It has a cool faux belt at the waist.

I'll be linking up as usual with Her Library Adventures Flea Market Finds.

Miss V Wannabe Frock Friday

We took these photos when we were at the Sunshine Coast last weekend. Last week I popped into my favourite nursing home op shop, & I got this sweet vintage frock with a lace collar in a lovely thick cotton fabric. It cost a whole $2. It reminds me a bit of something Miss Vanessa would wear. She has such a wonderful collection of super pretty frocks, & she often inspires my wardrobe choices. So Mr P & I christened this frock as the Miss V. The op shop had a whole bag of retro frocks for $2 each, but most of them were obviously from the same dear Nana who must have liked large dropped waist dresses with pleated skirts. I have come to realize that not all retro is good retro if you know what I mean!

1960's Treasure

I enjoyed a rummage through some of my favourite coast op shops on the weekend, & I found something that I absolutely love. I have nothing like it, & I had a feeling it may be worth something. It's a 1960's West German pottery vase from the maker Dumler & Breiden. I love the glaze colours in green & grey & vivid orange on the inside. I think it was a steal at $8.

For now it sits with the other green treasures.
