Dreamy Green Coat

My favourite nursing home op shop has been shut for months & unfortunately they are closed until next year due to renovations. I've missed the lovely volunteers on my regular visits. When I last popped in they kindly let me have a look at some stock even though they were officially closed. Mr P picked up a Ralph Lauren shirt for $3, & I scored a DIVINE, very old green coat for $3. It's labeled "Stanley's Wearing Apparel Melbourne". It's in a dark green & black stripe, with covered buttons, the cutest collar & fur pockets, & in good condition. I'll never ever wear it here in Queensland (it's long & thick & far too warm), but it would be perfect if I lived in Melbourne or New Zealand. It fits like a dream, so I'll be keeping her for that special chilly occasion. Even though Mr P says sell, sell, sell...how could I part with such beauty?

LOVE that old label. And as a bonus there were some palm cards in the pocket from an old theater production!

$3 Ralph Lauren shirt...old style yuppie for Mr P.

Thank you so much for your concern & best wishes regarding my health. My specialist visit was helpful, although there's not a lot I can do but hope my med change kicks in soon. My heart abnormalities are a part of my chronic illness, & after 19 years of that I'm pretty used to the unpleasant ups & downs I face most of the time. It just seems the older I get the more prominent the cardiac problems become. Anyway I will endeavour to make the most of what I've got, as things could always be worse as my Dad would say!

I love that coat what a fantastic find. It'll be perfect in NZ even if it's hopeless in your tropical climate! xxx

  5. Sad news that your favorite shop is closed. I am down to relying on one local thrift shop because the estate sales around here have been sparse. I will cross my fingers that you happen upon another good shop or sale.

  6. Oh that coat is a little piece of heaven! If you DO ever decide to sell - let me know! I'm joking (but only because the postage would be so heinous!)
Chronic health conditions can make or break people, I reckon. It's incredibly tough to have difficult issues to deal with pretty much all the time, and you manage to face yours with grace, patience and good humour. I will tell my Littlest about you, she will understand, and you are a fantastic role model for her. xxx

  9. That is a gorgeous coat. Don't sell it. Save it until you move to NZ or at least until you come here for a holiday again. I hope with the medication change you feel better soon. Like Vix said, you're very inspiring.

  10. Nope Leisa, that dreamy coat has to be kept and loved and passed down in your family, it is far too gorgeous to part with. I love that you found a bit of history in the pockets too! I'm sorry to hear that you haven't been well, I'm catching up on my blogs today so I haven't got to your other posts yet, but I do hope today was at least a day of sunshine for you xx

  11. Hi Leisa, Your Mum told me about your blog site after reading one of my girl's site from a f/b entry. It's so good to catch up with you this way. Love your blogs & the interest you have in this area. Ainsley is into "old" too --- particularly furniture & old farm "stuff" for her garden etc. She's very interested in all sorts of crafts etc & incorporates what she can of it into home schooling as well. Am looking forward to keeping in touch with you. Trust this week is going OK for you healthwise Leisa. Love & blessings,Beth Carter. xo

  13. Fab coat. Living in Melbourne I always have an excuse for another coat for the collection, never mind I never owned any prior to living here and the collection now numbers *cough* 15. We are visiting the Sunshine Coast for New Year and The Dancer and I will be looking to scout op-shops. We are staying at Sunrise Beach (which I have no idea where is in relation to anything) so any hints and tips would be much appreciated. Hope you are feeling better.

    1. Thanks for your lovely comment. If you are staying at Sunrise Beach & you have a car the closest op shops would be in Noosa. I like the 'Alpha & Omega' op shop, Salvos & Vinnies which are all in close proximity at Noosaville. There is also a higher end op shop in Noosaville specializing in vintage called 'Shabby to Chic' (not that I've ever found anything there). Maroochydore (20 minutes drive) has about 10 op shops all along Aerodrome Road which are good for a fossick. And Caloundra (about 40 minutes from Sunrise) has about 10 good ones too, & I find they stock some more vintage because of the high elderly population there. If you need any more information just let me know.
