Would You Wear a Quilt?

I spied this handmade quilted skirt at Salvos last week. The fabric & detailing is AMAZING! It's just like a patchwork quilt, but in skirt form! It's thick & heavy like a real quilt too. It has lace, applique, embroidery & lots of different vintage fabric squares. It's really a piece of art. I really don't know whether I would wear it. I love it, but it is a full skirt, so I look very hippy (as in hips & thighs, not hippy cool like Vix!). I'm afraid I'll look like a walking doona. It might work if you played up it's fullness with a crinoline (but I don't own one of those yet!). At $8 I had to get it, & it is hanging on display on our bedroom wall. Mr P spied it in bed the other night, & when I showed it to him, even he was impressed with the amazing workmanship & gorgeous detailing. That's saying something when a man oohs & aahs over patchwork!

    1. I thought you would be the one person who could really rock a patchwork skirt. I can't wait to see yours. Maybe then I'll have the confidence to actually wear it! Xx

  3. It's absolutely freaking gorgeous and Sarah's right, I'm WILD with jealousy. I'd wear it like a shot (but I'd have to pose away from my curtains in case I became invisible).
Stick on a skinny fitting top and lace-up boots and you'll look fabulous!!!!
Now I'm going to go off and sulk for not finding anything as beautiful! xxx

  5. I'm not usually one for patchwork but this skirt is really nice. I love all the flowers that have been individually cut out and stitched on.

  6. It's a stunner I'm jealous too! Is there any way to wear it a little higher so you don't look so hippy! It would be a crime not to wear it. xx

  9. Oh you must, you must wear it! At least give it a try (and show us, of course!) Vix's styling tips are usually spot on, so a fitted top, tucked in, with one of your fab wide belts would look amazing, I'm sure. I know what you mean though about loving an item, but not feeling it flatters you once you put it on... Outfits are so often different in my head than when I actually wear them! But that skirt is certainly a work of art! xxxx

  17. That's quite a work of art! I hear of bloggers who have found fifties quilted circle skirts, but have never been lucky enough to find one or even see one on-line.
