Happy Birthday Betty

I had a lovely visit last week with my dear friend Betty, to mark the occasion of her 80th birthday. We had a special time together, & I showed her the blog posts I'd written here about her treasures. Her memory is fading but she remembers the history of each piece she gave me. Betty so kindly passed another treasure onto me. She said she doesn't have the space to display it properly, so she wanted me to have it. It is so so beautiful, & I feel so privileged that Betty gave it to me. It's a very old Japanese made biscuit barrel or something like that (if it was designed for something else let me know!), with the sweetest deer & squirrel & a birdy on top. What a perfect combination of cuteness! I have it sitting on my lovely old cabinet that Betty gave me some years ago.

  3. It is a biscuit barrel. I have one almost exactly the same except it has two blue birdies on the front instead of a deer and squirrel like yours. It is very sweet and so is Betty. And you must be too V.B.G. for Betty to give it to you x

  6. How lovely! It's great to share these things with older people, even though some are rather unsentimental and not interested. It's a fantastic biscuit jar (possibly) - you're very lucky!
