Final Frock Friday for 2011

For my final Frock Friday of the year I wore my new Ebay purchase for the first time. I was pretty excited about this dress because it was one of those rare vintage pieces that had never been worn before, with the original tags still on, & the original smell lingering too if you know what I mean! The brand is "Finlaw" & it is made of the cutting edge fabric "T-Lon"....triacetate & nylon, which is supposed to be wash & wear. I like the black & white geometric print, & I was so very happy that it is the perfect fit too. I can't believe I only paid $1.29 for it. I almost felt bad about paying so little for it. But good for me no one else was bidding on this one I guess! Thanks for your support during the first couple of months of my blog, it's been a lot of fun for me, especially after a pretty difficult year for my family. Here's hoping 2012 brings many wonderful moments & blessings for us all. Love. Xx

I teamed it with a vintage Sarah Coventry ring & my vintage typewriter bracelet. Plus my Kellie Cristie deer brooch....a bit hard to see amongst all the black & white!

My thrifted 'Footrest' T-bar heels.

Yipee for the original tag!!!

New Old Side Table

I've been looking for an interesting side table for ages, to replace my dull 4 legged side table. I recently purchased this quirky old table off Ebay for $25. I wanted something with a bit of storage, & yet different from my potty cupboard. This has a cute shelf area & a few drawers which will come in handy. It's a bit on the shabby side but I kind of like it. I especially love the funny old original drawer handles. Not sure if the caster legs are a more recent addition to the table.

Here's a few of the things I keep on the shelf.

One of my Mum's original Schoolgirls Annual books.

Mr P's vintage jigsaw puzzle. He loved the locomotive picture.

Mr P's original space invaders game in the days before Donkey Kong.

Childhood Memories.....Vintage View Master

I have referred to my collection of old view master reels from my childhood in the post Sisters Suitcase. I am particularly fond of my 'Peanuts' & 'Herby' reels, but I haven't been able to find the actual view master machine. So I was delighted when I saw Nelly was selling one on her blog. It came to me in the original packaging as a Walt Disney Anniversary gift pack, with the same view master that I had as a child, plus 7 other reels to view. They include 'Chip & Dale' the chipmunks, Mickey Mouse, Rumpelstiltskin & a few other Grimm fairy tales, 3 Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White & Zorro & Bugs Bunny. I can't figure out what year they were released, but I guess it would have been the late 1970's. It's funny now to think this was once a cutting edge gift, & that I got so much pleasure from looking at those little 3D pictures. Life was so simple then....but that just means I'm getting old!

My original reels.

7 new (to me) reels come in a snazzy little reel case!

Hawaiian Frock....What Do You Think?

So I wasn't quite brave enough to venture out in my vintage Hawaiian frock, but I took a photo to see what you guys think? I probably need to do a closer pic so you can see the details. Hubby likes it which is always a good sign, but I feel a bit over done in it somehow, & I've never worn this kind of style before. I'm not sure about the length, & whether it would look better taken up a bit at the hem, or if I will just look like a giant puff ball with it shorter as the skirt is fairly full? Let me know what you think about the length. I teamed it with a cool & quirky green owl necklace by  Kellie Christie, & a green glass ring by Each to Own. Both are very talented jewellery artists from Brisbane. I was spoiled with 3 Kellie Christie pieces for Christmas, as well as 2 necklaces secretly purchased during our last trip to New Zealand. And so the jewellery collection keeps on growing! ;)

The length is mid calf...wondering whether I should bring the hem up to knee level?

I guess you've figured out by now that I kinda like green things!

This cutie pie wooden owl necklace is double sided!

It's a green button necklace with a squirrel in the center....reminds me of Miss Vanessa of Two Squirrels yet again.

A Deer brooch in black & white.

My  mum bought me the lovely birdy frame necklace when they were in Christchurch, & hubby gave me the sweet double sided New Zealand vintage postage stamp necklace by Katy Grace....so the collection keeps expanding!

Wishing You a Blessed Christmas

Christmas seems to come around faster & faster the older I get. I miss the thrill it gave me as a child, but I guess the true meaning of Christmas means more now rather then all the commercial hype. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. I had no room in my house for our big Christmas tree this year, it would mean far too much re-arranging of my vintage treasures I'm afraid! So so slack....but at least our deer antlers got a Christmas makeover! Thank you so much for reading my little blog, & for your lovely comments along the way which are always such a thrill to read. Oh & I thought I would add in a sneaky peak at my new Christmas frock....$1.29 on Ebay & new with tags too! Squeak!!!

Wishing you a very Merry Vintage Christmas. Xx

A sneaky peak at my latest Ebay bargain....more pics later!

Frock Friday

Before I begin this post, I wanted to say our thoughts & prayers are with all of those who are enduring another difficult day in Christchurch after yet another earthquake. Christchurch is one of our all time favourite places, & it is so sad to see the people of that beautiful city suffer so much. Here's a couple of my photos from our past trips to Christchurch. Sad to say these buildings are no longer standing.

Frock Friday is fairly convenient for me as it is usually my husbands day off work, & instead of hanging around home we usually like to go out. What better excuse to frock up! Mr P & I went out for a few last minute Christmas errands today, & we dropped into a new-ish vintage store on Logan Road at Greenslopes in Brisbane. It's called Can You Keep a Secret? It has a great collection of vintage clothing all at very reasonable prices. Frocks priced from $25 dollars, & a room of vintage for the men as well. It's in an old Queenslander house, & each room is set up to look like home, with fabulous furniture & kitsch nick nacks.

Today I wore a vintage maxi dress that I purchased from the last Suitcase Rummage for $5. I wore it to an event the other night, &  I did get a couple of funny comments. The one that stands out was "It's great that you don't care what anyone else thinks", which seemed a bit odd to me. As if to say most people would think I look ridiculous! Not to sure if it was meant to be a compliment or not! Oh well I guess not everyone loves the vintage look, but I sure do!

Accessories for the day.....pink floral vintage look ring from Target. Vintage Sarah Coventry silver bracelet. Handmade fabric brooch from Etsy.

The brand is the 'Design Room' by the House of Lucas.

Step away from the polyester.

This one made me think of the lovely Miss Vanessa from Two Squirrels

I LOVE the little budgie tin on the second top shelf in the cafe section.

Love the bendy lamp a bit like mine.

Mr P checking out some vintage shirts. He ALMOST bought a salmon coloured T-shirt. Hehe

They have a furniture section underneath the house.
